The project

The Jardin des migrations (Migration Garden) at the Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations (MuCEM) in Marseille is a pocket of nature in the heart of the city. This dry, eco-friendly garden features a sensory walk allowing visitors to discover the biodiversity of the Mediterranean. With the help of the ENGIE Foundation, MuCEM was able to forge an innovative partnership with Mouvements et Paysages, which is responsible for the garden's upkeep and activities. During opening hours, the company's staff tend to the garden and provide information to visitors. They also run numerous workshops and guided tours to educate the people of Marseille about biodiversity issues. In addition, the partnership finances the Fête des Plantes plant market, which has become a popular event, attracting several thousand visitors every spring.

Role of the ENGIE Foundation

The Foundation voted to support the Migration Garden project in 2015 for a period of three years. As part of the same partnership, it also supports a programme promoting access to culture for all.
