Located in Rio de Janeiro's old port that was once the entry point for African slaves, the Museum of Tomorrow opened in late 2015, shortly before the Olympic Games. A next-generation museum connecting the past and future, it features collections and exhibitions that question the future of humanity and our planet.
To reach young people in the 'favelas' (shanty towns) who do not visit museums, the institution set up the 'Between museums' programme promoting access to culture and knowledge. Through talks and workshops, the programme invites young people to discover the richness of their history and cultural heritage and encourages them to enter the seemingly inaccessible world of science, arts and culture.
While the project is primarily about reintegrating vulnerable young people (e.g. those who have dropped out of school and/or take drugs), it goes further by making young people aware of the need to preserve their cultural heritage in order to build a better city for the future.
Role of the ENGIE Foundation
The Foundation supported the project in 2016 for a period of one year.
