The Royaumont Foundation was set up in 1964 by the owners of the Cistercian abbey of the same name. Its purpose is to conserve the abbey's outstanding heritage by making the building into a vibrant cultural centre rooted in the contemporary world.
The Royaumont Foundation has developed an ambitious programme promoting access to culture for all. The 'Berlioz à l’école' ('Berlioz in school') music education project is one component of this programme. It involves 18 primary school classes from Seine-Saint-Denis on the northern edge of Paris.
Role of the ENGIE Foundation
The ENGIE Foundation is the main sponsor of all the youth initiatives at Royaumont Abbey, including the 'Berlioz in school' project.
It wishes to make a long-term commitment to the Royaumont Foundation (a three-year partnership), with a view, in particular, to broadening the Foundation's reach among disadvantaged young people in the new Carnelle Pays-de-France community of municipalities (31,500 inhabitants, 19 municipalities).
