Children with heart defects come from far and wide to undergo surgery at the Cuomo Centre for Paediatric Cardiology (CCPC) in Dakar. After what are often gruelling operations, letting them leave without post-operative treatment is out of the question. Which is why La Chaîne de l’Espoir, having already set up the CCPC, decided to build the Children's Pavilion.
Here, the young patients, accompanied by their families, will receive medical care free of charge. The children and their mothers will also be able to participate in educational and recreational activities as well as health, hygiene and nutrition education workshops.
The centre will open in 2018. It is the only paediatric cardiology facility of its kind in West Africa. This is the fourth such facility built by La Chaine de l’Espoir, a long-time partner of the ENGIE Foundation.
Role of the ENGIE Foundation
Construction of the Pavilion was entirely financed by the ENGIE Foundation. The Foundation also funded construction of the CCPC.
