The project

"Sport speaks to youth in a language they understand. It can create hope where once there was only despair." These words of Nelson Mandela are the inspiration behind Playing for Success (PfS). The organisation helps young people aged 10 to 14 who are struggling at school to regain their self-confidence and desire to learn through sport. The concept is as follows: The youngsters follow an intensive 10-week programme, two to three hours a week (outside of school time), at high-level sports clubs such as BX Brussels. The programme is run by sportsmen and women, many of them well-known, who provide coaching designed to boost self-confidence. Of course, the youngsters also get the chance to play sport. The scheme was successfully developed in the Netherlands and United Kingdom before being rolled out in Belgium.

Role of the ENGIE Foundation

The Foundation has been a partner since 2014 and enables the intensive programmes to be run free of charge.
