The project

The aquarium at the Natural History Museum within the Citadel of Besançon consists of three spaces showcasing the biodiversity to be found in the wetlands and waterways of Franche-Comté. These include some threatened species emblematic of the region such as the apron fish (Zingel asper) and the white-clawed crayfish. However, the tanks have begun to leak and are no longer the right size for the species the museum wishes to display. As well as repairing the aquariums, the renovation project supported by the Foundation is also updating the museum's displays.

Role of the ENGIE Foundation

The Foundation supported the project in 2016 for a period of three years. Previously, the Foundation had already supported construction of the Naturalium, a space devoted entirely to biodiversity and knowledge sharing.
